The B-COOL 12RV is the quietest unit in the entire B-COOL lineup — running at just 28 dB, it is the only rooftop no-idle air conditioner we make that is genuinely whisper-quiet during overnight use. Purpose-built for RVs, motorhomes, and camper vans, the 12RV features a square 14.5 x 14.5 in roof cut that fits standard RV roof openings, built-in internal air filters, and 350 m³/h of cooling airflow — all powered by 12V or 24V DC battery with no engine idling, no shore power, and no generator required.

At 28 dB the 12RV is quieter than a library. For full-time RV travellers, weekend campers, and off-grid builders running solar battery systems, this is the unit that lets you sleep through the night without the air conditioner waking you up.

At 77 lbs with a 32.6 x 39.4 in footprint, the 12RV is a full-size rooftop unit that comes pre-charged and ready to install — cut the square opening, bolt it down, connect to your battery, and go.

The 12RV is a self-contained rooftop unit — compressor, condenser, and evaporator all housed in one unit that mounts on top of the vehicle. No refrigerant lines to run. No separate condenser to mount. The unit ships pre-charged with R134a and is ready to run straight out of the box.

The 12RV uses a square 14.5 x 14.5 in roof cut — the standard RV roof opening size — making it a direct fit for most motorhomes, travel trailers, and camper vans without modification.

Professional installation required.

Step 1 — Cut the roof opening
Cut a 14.5 x 14.5 in square opening in the roof. This is the standard RV roof opening size. If replacing an existing RV rooftop AC unit the opening may already be the correct size — measure before cutting. Measure twice before cutting.

Step 2 — Prepare the mounting surface
Apply the rubber gasket and sealant around the opening to create a weatherproof seal.

Step 3 — Set the support bolts
Adjust the support bolts to the correct height for your specific roof thickness before setting the unit.

Step 4 — Mount the unit
Set the 12RV onto the roof opening and secure it with the included support brace.

Step 5 — Connect the control panel wiring
Run the control panel wiring through the roof and connect to the interior control panel.

Step 6 — Connect power
Run the power cable to your 12V or 24V battery bank. Connect positive first. The standard cable is 6m (20ft). An optional 10.5m (35ft) cable is available from our Parts Department if needed.

Step 7 — Set low voltage protection
Before first use, program the voltage cutoff to protect your battery system:

  • 12V systems: set cutoff between 9V – 12V
  • 24V systems: set cutoff between 19V – 24V

Step 8 — Finish interior
Install the optional decorative panel on the interior ceiling for a clean finish.

Step 9 — Power on
Turn the unit on and verify operation.

Display button: turns the interior display on or off — turn it off at night to avoid light disturbance during sleep.

Internal Air Filters

The 12RV includes built-in internal air filters — the only rooftop unit in the B-COOL lineup with this feature. The filters catch dust, debris, and particulates before they enter the evaporator, extending the service life of the unit and improving air quality inside the RV. Filters should be cleaned or replaced periodically — refer to the full operating manual for maintenance intervals.

Low Voltage Protection

The 12RV includes programmable voltage cutoff to protect your battery system from deep discharge.

  • 12V systems: set cutoff between 9V – 12V
  • 24V systems: set cutoff between 19V – 24V

When battery voltage drops to the cutoff threshold the unit shuts off automatically to prevent battery damage.

Who It's Built For

The 12RV is the right unit if:

  • You live in or travel full-time in an RV, motorhome, or camper van and need the quietest possible overnight no-idle air conditioning — 28 dB is near-silent, quieter than any other unit in the B-COOL lineup
  • You have a solar-powered off-grid RV build and need a DC air conditioner that runs off battery power without a generator or shore power hookup
  • Your RV has an existing square 14.5 x 14.5 in roof opening — the 12RV drops straight in as a replacement for a failed OEM RV air conditioner without any re-cutting
  • You want built-in air filtration — the 12RV is the only B-COOL rooftop unit with internal filters, keeping dust and debris out of the evaporator and improving interior air quality
  • You want an aftermarket 12V or 24V DC air conditioner that is specifically designed for RV use — not a truck unit adapted for an RV
  • You're building a camper van, skoolie, or custom off-grid vehicle and need a rooftop DC AC that fits a standard square opening and runs silently overnight

The 12RV is not the highest airflow unit in the lineup — it delivers 350 m³/h. If maximum airflow is your priority, consider the 12RM Dual Fan (400 m³/h) or YTRM (460 m³/h). But if silent overnight operation, RV fitment, and built-in filtration are what matter most, the 12RV is the only unit we make built specifically for this application.

Applications

RV & Motorhome — Class A, B, and C motorhomes, travel trailers, fifth wheels — particularly for full-time RV living, overnight camping, and solar-powered off-grid travel

Camper Van & Conversion — Sprinter vans, Transit vans, Promaster vans, skoolies, and custom conversion builds with standard square roof openings

Off-Grid Solar Builds — battery-powered off-grid vehicles where silent operation and low power draw matter as much as cooling performance

Truck Campers — slide-in and hard-side truck campers with square roof openings requiring a quiet no-idle DC air conditioner

Marine & Specialty — enclosed operator stations and cabins where quiet operation and built-in filtration are operationally valuable

FAQ

How quiet is 28 dB really?
28 dB is roughly equivalent to a whisper at a distance — quieter than a library (38 dB), quieter than rustling leaves, and dramatically quieter than any other rooftop unit in the B-COOL lineup. The next quietest units are the 6RM and 9RM at 38 dB. For overnight use in an RV or camper, 28 dB is essentially inaudible.

Will the 12RV fit my existing RV roof opening?
The 12RV uses a 14.5 x 14.5 in square roof cut — the standard RV rooftop AC opening size used by most North American motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels. If your RV currently has a rooftop AC unit, the 12RV will likely fit the existing opening without re-cutting. Measure your existing opening before ordering to confirm.

Does the 12RV work on both 12V and 24V systems?
Yes. The 12RV is available in both 12V and 24V configurations. Select your voltage when ordering. The unit is wired for one voltage — it is not a dual-voltage unit.

What are the internal filters and how do I maintain them?
The 12RV includes built-in internal air filters that catch dust and debris before they reach the evaporator. This is exclusive to the 12RV in the B-COOL lineup. Filters should be cleaned periodically — refer to the full operating manual for recommended maintenance intervals. Replacement filters are available from our Parts Department.

Does it come pre-charged?
Yes. The 12RV ships pre-charged with R134a refrigerant and is ready to install. No vacuum pump or refrigerant equipment needed.

Can I run the 12RV off solar?
Yes. The 12RV runs on 12V or 24V DC battery power and is fully compatible with solar-charged battery systems. At 12V it draws between 30 and 70 amps. Contact our technical support team to size your solar and battery system correctly for your runtime requirements.

Is this unit compliant with anti-idling regulations?
Yes. The 12RV runs entirely on DC battery power with no engine idling required, making it fully compatible with anti-idling laws and idle reduction programs across North America.

How does the 12RV compare to the 9RM?
Both units weigh 77 lbs and draw 30–70A at 12V. The key differences are noise level (12RV at 28 dB vs 9RM at 38 dB), roof cut shape (12RV square 14.5 x 14.5 in vs 9RM rectangular 13.78 x 21.26 in), and the 12RV's internal filters. The 12RV is purpose-built for RV applications. The 9RM is designed for large truck and heavy equipment cabs.

What battery bank do I need?
At 12V, the 12RV draws between 30 and 70 amps. For overnight off-grid use, contact our technical support team to size your battery system correctly for your runtime and solar charging requirements.

Why B-COOL Does Not List BTU Ratings

Every other brand lists BTU numbers. We don't, and here's why.

BTU ratings in the 12V and 24V air conditioner market are tested in controlled lab conditions and competitors go with their favourite testing company and tend to use those results that depicts them the "best". Real-world performance — inside a truck cab or RV sitting in the sun at 100°F+ — is a completely different story. The numbers you see on competitor listings are inflated, and we are not willing to publish figures that mislead the people who depend on this equipment to stay safe and productive.

Lower amp draw means longer battery runtime. For operators running on batteries overnight, during rest breaks, or in anti-idling zones, the 6RM stretches your power further than any other rooftop option in our lineup.
