The B-COOL YTRM is the only rooftop no-idle air conditioner in the B-COOL lineup purpose-built for yard trucks — also known as terminal tractors, spotter trucks, or hostler trucks. The YTRM is a self-contained rooftop unit — compressor, condenser, and dual evaporator fans all housed in one unit that mounts on top of the vehicle. No refrigerant lines to run. No separate condenser to mount. The unit ships pre-charged with R134a and is ready to run straight out of the box.

Roof cut templates are included to simplify marking and cutting the correct opening on yard truck roof configurations.

Professional installation required.

Step 1 — Mark the roof opening using the included cut template
Use the included roof cut template to mark the 13.78 x 21.26 in opening accurately. The template is specifically designed for common yard truck roof profiles.

Step 2 — Cut the roof opening
Cut along the marked line. Measure twice before cutting.

Step 3 — Prepare the mounting surface
Apply the rubber gasket and sealant around the opening to create a weatherproof seal.

Step 4 — Set the support bolts
Adjust the support bolts to the correct height for your specific roof thickness before setting the unit.

Step 5 — Mount the unit
Set the YTRM onto the roof opening and secure it with the included stainless steel hardware. Note: at 99 lbs this unit requires two people for safe roof mounting.

Step 6 — Connect the Hybrid Control Panel wiring
Run the Hybrid Control Panel wiring through the roof and connect per the wiring diagram in the full installation manual.

Step 7 — Connect the ignition cut-off wiring
Connect the ignition cut-off circuit per the wiring diagram. This allows the unit to shut off automatically when the ignition is turned off, protecting the battery system.

Step 8 — Connect power
Run the 30ft power cable to your 12V or 24V battery bank. Connect positive first.

Step 9 — Set low voltage protection
Before first use, program the voltage cutoff to protect your battery system:

12V systems: set cutoff between 9V – 12V
24V systems: set cutoff between 19V – 24V

Step 10 — Finish interior
Install the optional decorative panel on the interior ceiling for a clean finish.

Step 11 — Power on
Turn the unit on and verify all operating modes and the ignition cut-off function correctly.

Hybrid Control Panel

The YTRM comes standard with the Hybrid Control Panel — an alternative control interface designed for yard truck cab configurations where the standard panel placement is not practical. The Hybrid Control Panel provides full access to all operating modes and settings.

Remote Control

Power on / off. Temperature range: 60.8°F – 89.6°F.

Operating modes:

Auto — automatically maintains set temperature, default 78.8°F, Level 4 airflow
Cool — active compressor cooling, 6 airflow levels
Dry — dehumidification mode, removes moisture without aggressive cooling
Sleep — gradually adjusts temperature for comfortable overnight or rest period use, dims display automatically
Turbo — maximum compressor and fan output for fastest possible cooldown
Timer — set the unit to turn on or off at a specified time
Query — system status check
Fresh Air — fan only, compressor off

Ignition Cut-Off

The YTRM includes an ignition cut-off circuit that automatically shuts the unit off when the vehicle ignition is turned off. This prevents battery drain when the yard truck is parked and unattended, and ensures the unit does not restart automatically when the ignition is turned back on without operator input.

Low Voltage Protection

The YTRM includes programmable voltage cutoff to protect your battery system from deep discharge.

12V systems: set cutoff between 9V – 12V
24V systems: set cutoff between 19V – 24V

When battery voltage drops to the cutoff threshold the unit shuts off automatically to prevent battery damage.

Does the YTRM work on both 12V and 24V systems?
Yes. The YTRM is available in both 12V and 24V configurations. Select your voltage when ordering. The unit is wired for one voltage — it is not a dual-voltage unit.

What is the ignition cut-off and why does it matter for yard trucks?
The ignition cut-off automatically shuts the YTRM off when the vehicle ignition is turned off. Yard trucks are frequently started, stopped, and left unattended throughout a shift. Without ignition cut-off, the AC unit could continue drawing battery power after the truck is parked — draining the battery. The ignition cut-off eliminates this risk.

Why does the YTRM have a 30ft power cable instead of the standard 20ft?
Yard truck battery systems are often located further from the cab roof than in standard semi trucks, requiring longer cable runs. The 30ft cable is included as standard on the YTRM to accommodate typical yard truck battery routing without needing to purchase an extension separately.

What is the Hybrid Control Panel?

BTU ratings in the 12V and 24V air conditioner market are tested in controlled lab conditions and competitors go with their favourite testing company and tend to use those results that depicts them the "best". Real-world performance — inside a truck cab or RV sitting in the sun at 100°F+ — is a completely different story. The numbers you see on competitor listings are inflated, and we are not willing to publish figures that mislead the people who depend on this equipment to stay safe and productive.

Lower amp draw means longer battery runtime. For operators running on batteries overnight, during rest breaks, or in anti-idling zones, the 6RM stretches your power further than any other rooftop option in our lineup.
